At Second Chance, we take pride in having an active, working Board of Directors whose dedicated involvement is the cornerstone of our organization's success. Members of the Board of Directors play a crucial role in the governance and vitality of our organization. Their job responsibilities typically include:

Strategic Planning

Contribute to developing and implementing the organization's strategic plan, setting long-term goals and objectives.


Ensure the organization complies with legal and ethical standards and upholds the organization's bylaws.

Fiduciary Oversight

Monitor and approve the organization's budget, financial statements, and major financial decisions. Ensure fiscal responsibility and accountability.

Fundraising and Resource Development

Actively participate in fundraising efforts, leveraging personal and professional networks to secure resources for the organization.

Advocacy and Public Releations

Represent the organization in the community, advocate for its mission, and help build relationships with key stakeholders, including donors, partners, and government agencies. Engage with beneficiaries, clients, volunteers, and staff to understand their needs and perspectives.

Oversight and Accountability

Hire, evaluate, and support the organization's executive director and provide guidance and feedback on their performance. Establish key performance indicators and regularly assess the organization's progress toward its goals.

Board Meetings and Participation

Attend and actively participate in regular board meetings, working board meetings, committee meetings, and special sessions as needed. Demonstrate a strong commitment to the organization's mission and actively engage in its activities and initiatives, including public relations events, community events, and fundraisers.

Ethical and Legal Compliance

Ensure that the organization operates ethically and in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.

Can you commit to attendin IN-PERSON board meetigs once a month? (Approx. 1-2 hours per meeting.)
Can you commit to attendig VIRTUAL working board meetings as frequently as possible? (Once or twice a month.)
Can you commit to volunteering for two to three fundraising events per yer?
A non-profit is a business. There are many administrative and operational requirements to ensure our compliance with state and federal laws. It is critical that all our board membes help take on tasks. How many hour per month could you assist us with any sillsets that you have?
